Barnsley Teenage Pregnancy Profile

This latest report provides detailed information about teenage conceptions for Barnsley. It presents the patterns and trends in teenage conceptions in Barnsley, compared with national and regional figures. It includes information on trends and progress towards targets and local variations by geographical area. It also discusses the risk factors associated with high teenage pregnancy rates to allow us to identify these amongst our local population of young people.

Collecting accurate, timely, relevant data is key to the success of the Teenage Pregnancy strategy. It is essential for monitoring progress against performance indicators and for developing targeted approaches to addressing high conception rates. It can build a picture of young people at risk of teenage pregnancy, challenge and broaden perceptions help by local partners.

This report has been commissioned by the Barnsley Children and Young People's Strategic Partnership (Teenage Pregnancy Partnership Board) who has the lead responsibility for Teenage Pregnancy in the borough. The Board reviews the data on a regular basis as part of their monitoring of the effectiveness of the local Teenage Pregnancy Strategy.

The Yorkshire and Humber Public Health Observatory (YHPHO) has launhced a new website.

The YHPHO has all the information, data and intelligence on people's health and health care for practitioners, policy makers and the wider community. The expertise of YHPHO lies in turning information and data into meaningful health intelligence.

Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA)

The purpose of the JSNA is to aid understanding of the current and future health and wellbeing needs of the population and to identify groups where needs are not being met. The findings will be used to inform future service planning and more effective commissioning. A full JSNA for Barnsley will be available in the autumn.

The supporting JSNA Technical Document contains detailed analysis of a wide range of data and intelligence. It should be used primarily as a reference tool. The document has been updated, broken down into chapters for ease of use and can be obtained here.
